Counselling Services

We offer trauma counselling services to all women (transgender and cisgender), non-binary, and two-spirit people who identify as part of the women’s community and who have been impacted by violence, abuse or trauma at any time in their lives. Counselling is included in program enrollment, and is also available at no, low or sliding scale cost for eligible clients.

Woman offering counselling services

Our counselling approach draws on variety of modalities to help clients process and recover from past and ongoing experiences with trauma. We are trained and practice in a range of modalities, including trauma informed, strengths-based, person-centered, and somatic-informed approaches. We strive to meet people where they are at and hold the clients as experts on their own lives. Bridges develops strong and healing relationships with clients so that the relational ruptures that accompany trauma can start to heal. Through this restorative process, clients achieve new outlooks and transform their lives through our accessible counselling services.

Counselling Services Eligibility

You do not need to be enrolled in a group program to access the counselling services at Bridges. Our services are geared towards people who have secured stability and are well-resourced to pursue their healing journey. We do not offer trauma counselling to people who are in an abusive relationship, struggling with substance use or do not have secure housing.

Funding

Depending on your personal circumstances, there are multiple sources of funding to access counselling at Bridges. Our registered clinical counselling is covered by most extended healthcare plans. If you have been a victim or witness of a crime in British Columbia, you may also be eligible for free counselling. Our counsellors are also registered with the First Nations Health Authority Health Benefits Program.

We also offer sliding scale rates for individuals who are not eligible for funding under other streams.
